SUBJECT: JOINT STATEMENT BY ORGANISED LABOUR AND THE CITY OF TSHWANE
Having noted that the dispute between the City of Tshwane, SAMWU and IMATU started in August 2023 and has been marred with violence, intimidation and damage to property, the CCMA initiated a section 150 intervention to mediate the strike. The section 150 was conducted on 7 August, 14 September, 5 and 25 October, and again on 6 November 2023.
The latest intervention on Monday 06 November 2023, saw parties agreeing to issues of common interest and primarily, the negative impact on service delivery, health, safety and wellness of staff including the health, safety and security of the residents of the City of Tshwane.
The dispute emanates from issues in the Collective Agreement concluded for the period 2020-2023.
In an urgent attempt to find a resolution to the above-mentioned dispute, the City of Tshwane, SAMWU and IMATU wish to make the following joint statement:
The City of Tshwane, SAMWU and IMATU unconditionally denounce all acts of intimidation and violence, which have resulted in the damage to the City of Tshwane’s property, the interruption of municipal services and the negative impact on the health, safety and wellness of staff including the health, safety and security of the residents of the City of Tshwane. The parties wish to call on all workers to return to work in a bid to restore normality to the municipality.
The parties have agreed and committed to ensuring the safety of staff and residents in the City of Tshwane and safeguarding the property of the City.
The City of Tshwane, SAMWU and IMATU further wish to confirm their joint commitment to finding a solution to the dispute by pledging to continue in the Section 150 intervention conducted under the auspices of the CCMA. The mediation continues on 13 November 2023.
