SUBJECT: CCMA TO LAUNCH YOUTH IN LABOUR - THINK TANK
The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) will, on 21 August 2019, launch the Youth in Labour - Think Tank, under the theme “The role of youth in the changing nature of work”. The forum creates a platform for employed and unemployed youth, academics, entrepreneurs and labour practitioners, to engage in robust dialogue, and most importantly conceptualise and test ideas, with CCMA playing a role of incubating some of the ideas and operationalising them.
The purpose of Youth in Labour - Think Tank is to contribute towards solving old and emerging challenges in new and faster ways with youth as solution leaders. Through this forum, the CCMA recognises the importance of integrating youth in the labour market as co-creators of the solution to the labour market challenges.
The inaugural Youth in Labour - Think Tank, to be convened quarterly, will also afford youth an opportunity to engage on challenges impeding their ability to actively participate in the broader economy and exchanges ideas that will nourish impactful and innovative business solutions for youth to access decent jobs opportunities and thrive in the labour market.
In addition, because the future of work is youth - Sonqoba Vuba, one of the Commissioners on the Presidential Task for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and founder of Perpu8, a gig – economy based business, and Kgabo Morifi – a young labour activist and board member of South African Association of Public Administration and Management will lead the discourse and engage fellow youth on the resolutions for vigorous youth empowerment agenda.
The event is also supported by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), with its CEO, Wassim Carrim, being part of the Programme to speak on challenges affecting the youth and to also give a message of support to the CCMA Youth In Labour Think Tank initiative. The following exhibitors will also be onsite: Department of Employment and Labour, NYDA, Productivity SA, Harambee, Lulaway, Wits Tshimologong ICT Precinct, Umuzi and Geekulcha.
