SUBJECT: GAUTRAIN EMPLOYEES WAGE NEGOTIATIONS SETTLED
The CCMA successfully resolved the wage dispute between UNTU and Bombela (Gautrain). Following two weeks (2) of industrial action, a one (1)-year agreement was reached on 13 August 2018. The initial conciliation hearing was sat down for 17 July 2018. Subsequent meetings were convened in terms of S150 of the Labour Relations Act, with the last meeting taking place on Sunday, 12 August 2018.
The CCMA Director, Cameron Sello Morajane, commends parties for their willingness to remain in process and explore options to seek resolution on the matter. The passenger rail sector is a crucial stakeholder in the South African public transport system, and this settlement represents commitment to labour peace and economic development, Morajane said. We are grateful to our world class Commissioner Mduduzi Khumalo for steering the ship over the stormy sea. The CCMA remains committed to supporting the labour market in facilitating improved Collective Bargaining to promote orderly and healthy labour relations, as prioritised in the CCMA’s five (5) year Senz’umehluko Strategy.
